Amsterdam Centraal Station is conveniently located near several ferry terminals, providing easy and free transportation to Amsterdam North (Amsterdam Noord), among other places. The ferries, operated by GVB (Gemeentelijk Vervoerbedrijf), provide an excellent way to see the city from a different perspective and to visit attractions located on the north side of the IJ River.

Buiksloterweg Ferry
This ferry goes to Amsterdam Noord, directly across from Amsterdam Centraal Station. This is the shortest and most frequent ferry route, with ferries usually departing every few minutes. The EYE Film Museum and the A’DAM Lookout tower, offering panoramic views of the city, are short walks from the Buiksloterweg ferry stop.
IJplein Ferry
This ferry also goes to Amsterdam Noord but to a location slightly east of the Buiksloterweg route. It is less frequent than the Buiksloterweg Ferry.
NDSM Ferry
This ferry goes to the NDSM area in Amsterdam Noord, which is a bit further away and is home to several cultural and artistic venues. The ferry ride takes about 15 minutes.
The ferries can accommodate pedestrians, bicycles, and mopeds. They run day and night, with less frequency in the late hours. You don’t need a ticket to use the ferries – you can simply walk or ride on and off.
